The article presents a study on decoupling patterns in the implementation of new organizational arrangements involving the diffusion of clinical directorates in the Italian National Health Care Service (I-NHS). The researchers investigated whether enactment of the clinical directorate model by an organization was merely symbolic by assessing the presence within the directorate of an orchestrated set of measures and tools aimed at enhancing the quality of care of patients. They also analyzed the patterns of the model implementation by identifying two historical periods relative to the introduction of Legislative Decree 229 in Italy in 1999.

Abstract

The article presents a study on decoupling patterns in the implementation of new organizational arrangements involving the diffusion of clinical directorates in the Italian National Health Care Service (I-NHS). The researchers investigated whether enactment of the clinical directorate model by an organization was merely symbolic by assessing the presence within the directorate of an orchestrated set of measures and tools aimed at enhancing the quality of care of patients. They also analyzed the patterns of the model implementation by identifying two historical periods relative to the introduction of Legislative Decree 229 in Italy in 1999.
