Charlotte Twight and the Spirit of Fascism

Benito Mussolini presented a famous synthesis of the fascist doctrine: “All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.” Italian fascism had an initial period of classical liberal fiscal consolidation, but true to Mussolini’s dictum, it soon transitioned to a corporatist system that centralized economic control and suppressed individual interest for national goals. Charlotte Twight’s America’s Emerging Fascist Economy forces us to recognize that the rhetoric of fascism and corporatism is ubiquitous in the economic public policies of the West to this day.
