Networked public spaces are the privileged context in which third sector organisations can produce a discourse on migrants able to challenge the mainstream. The article investigates migrants’ representation and self-representation by organised solidarity, to understand the patterns of construction of the discourse on the encounter between migrants and the Italian society. The results of a research project run from June to November 2019 are presented and discussed. The general approach follows the framework of critical discourse studies applied to social media: 12 organisations and 3 communication campaigns have been analysed through semistructured interviews and the content analysis of 499 Facebook posts. Two registers (emotional vs. bureaucratic) and two perceptions about the social context (sensitive vs. indifferent context) are highlighted, to build a typology of narrative frames: human rights, compassion, and civil disobedience.

Abstract
Networked public spaces are the privileged context in which third sector organisations can produce a discourse on migrants able to challenge the mainstream. The article investigates migrants’ representation and self-representation by organised solidarity, to understand the patterns of construction of the discourse on the encounter between migrants and the Italian society. The results of a research project run from June to November 2019 are presented and discussed. The general approach follows the framework of critical discourse studies applied to social media: 12 organisations and 3 communication campaigns have been analysed through semistructured interviews and the content analysis of 499 Facebook posts. Two registers (emotional vs. bureaucratic) and two perceptions about the social context (sensitive vs. indifferent context) are highlighted, to build a typology of narrative frames: human rights, compassion, and civil disobedience.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
