Luiss has always had among its objectives the training of a ruling class oriented towards responsible development. Beginning in 2017, this commitment was formalised with a project focused on the training of young refugees from the ‘enlarged’ Mediterranean. This purpose was expressed more incisively through the launch of Progetto Mediterraneo, and then, in 2019, of UNICORE, in collaboration with prominent partners such as Fondazione Terzo Pilastro - Internazionale and UNHCR. The focus on refugees arose in response to the emergencies that followed the suppression of the uprisings known as the ‘Arab Springs’ and the spread of terrorist actions by the ISIS group. Following the exodus of citizens fleeing violence, there was an urgent need to ensure that at least the best of the refugee students could complete their studies. The aforementioned programmes have initiated a virtuous process of inclusion of refugee students in Luiss, which has led to an interesting change and adaptation of the community. The inclusion of refugee students in Luiss has prompted the development of an effective inclusive model within the Luiss Tutoring functions, based on three main elements: freedom of study choice; inclusion in the student community; and awareness of decisions during and after university. The article explains the different activities promoted.
