This contribution looks at the recent AI Act to explore the links between the emerging concepts of European digital constitutionalism and digital sovereignty, as reflected in the European Union’s interactions with Member States and non-state actors, as well as in the relationship between citizens and the digital ecosystem. The aim of this contribution is to highlight the importance of a constitutional perspective in the new European digital legislation to strengthen the protection of fundamental rights and European values, and to ensure coherence between the Union’s external and internal policies.
