The article analyzes the role of orthodoxy and secularism in contemporary Russia. After a brief historical overview devoted to the development of Orthodoxy in Russia, the study focuses on the revival of this confession in the post-Soviet period and on the current status of the Russian Orthodox Church as an ‘almost’ state church. Finally, the multivocality of visions typical of Russian Orthodoxy is presented, which hosts within it a great diversity of beliefs and practices both in contrast with and compatible with modern secular society.
