The study analyses the raison d'etre of EU rules to guarantee free competition and their role within the European Union legal framework. It focuses, notably: the concept of Competition, the prohibition of Agreements and collusion between competitors, the definition of a 'Dominant Position' and the prohibition of Abuses of it on the 'relevant market', the proceedings to verify the possible infringements of the rules on Agreements and Abuses of a Dominant Position, the EU system to control mergers and Concentrations between companies, the concept of 'State Aid' to companies and the EU system to control and prohibit it, the position of 'Public-owned companies' (i.e. Art. 106 TFUE).
