This book proposes a new concept in the literature of Operations and Supply Chain Management called Reactivity. Reactivity is a dynamic capability through which firms properly satisfy the demand without underperforming from both an operational and an economic point of view when unexpected events perturb the business. When some events such as the September 11th terror attack occur, the concepts currently developed in the literature and exemplified by Agile, Lean, and Leagile, do not properly work within these contexts. We propose the operationalization of the Reactivity concept by combining both qualitative and empirical research to discover the practices through which firms become reactive as well as the real implied benefits.
