Start-ups represent an important occupational driver and the financial resources that are crucial for their success, are provided based on their expected performance. While dispositional factors that favor the start-ups’ performance have already been investigated, the relationship between founders’ competences and start-ups’ expected performance it’s an overlooked phenomenon. This research contributes to this field of research by empirically validating an analytical framework about the impact of competence depth and breadth on the start-ups’ expected performance. Based on a sample of 1690 start-ups, this paper provides relevant implications for management, highlighting the founders’ characteristics that favor start-ups’ success. In particular, our study suggests that, at the beginning, similar and deep competences positively impact the expected start-ups’ performance and therefore their ability to raise funds.

Abstract
In particular, our study suggests that, at the beginning, similar and deep competences positively impact the expected start-ups’ performance and therefore their ability to raise funds.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
