This paper presents the debate among examples from the sacred text and from classical tradition show the role of dialogue in the transmission of knowledge. Across the centuries it is possible to individuate the importance of dialogue in education also among the sufi orders and the folktales. The use of dialogue in the relation between Mentor and disciple is in fact an important element in mysticism. The sufi heritage opens the door to another important tradition, the anecdotes of the fool. The famous and wide spread dialogues of a silly rogue help educating the children to moral values and in the same time invite to a deeper understanding of life.
