The article describes the impact that the work of Claudio Ciborra’s, one of the gurus of the field of Management of Information Systems (MIS) during the 1990’s, had on the present literature. In particular, the paper copes with the criticisms on ‘illusions’ and ‘managerial recipes’, as dominant hidden hypotheses in the dominant literature. Further it examines the parallel between the concepts of ‘actors’ and ‘networks’ as used in the Actor-Network Theory and the field of MIS.
