After a discussion of existing literature on the costs of illegality, the chapter shows the structure, originality and fruitfulness of the research program based on evidence mainly drawn from judicial and investigative activities. Then it illustrates the present situation of the Camorra in Campania and introduces the individual contributions to this special issue of Global Crime.
